Church of Santa Maria Nuova

Built in 1080, the church is typical example of Romanesque architecture with a simple façade done in “peperino” (grey volcanic stone) and next to it a pulpit where Saint Thomas of Aquino preached in 1266.
The inside is divided into three naves, from the original columns with polymorphic capitals, and contains precious artwork including 13th century frescoes and painting from various époques like that of the 12th century triptych of Saint Salvatore.
Passing the crypt, you can visit the small Lombard cloister.
