Basilica of Saint Francesco
This Roman Gothic church, dating back to 1237, is the enlargement of a previous structure, redone in part in 1373, largely restructured after W.W. II. The façade with a Romanesque portal shows a pulpit in grey volcanic stone in the right corner where, in 1426, it faced Saint Bernardino of Siena. The inside is simple in a Latin cross floor plan, a sole nave terminated with squared apses and both the transept and apses are closed with large ribbed vaulting.
Some important works conserved inside include sepulchral monuments like that of the tomb of Pietro di Vico (1268) attributed to the Roman Pietro di Oderisio, the Gothic Mauseleo of Adriano V, deceased in in Viterbo in 1276, a finely sculpted work attributed to the young Arnolfo di Cambio, the Gothic, and finely decorated, Mauseleo of Clemente again by the sculptor Pietro di Oderisio.
